You’ve probably heard the old adage “Feel Isn’t Real.” This phrase harks back to the days when golf instruction was little more than one player offering the latest tip to another golfer. A player may “feel” they are moving the club in a certain manner, only to have a friend point out that their swing looks quite different. With the increased usage of video in golf instruction, more and more students began to experience this phenomenon. A golfer will feel their swing is “flat” or that they are “coming over the top,” only to see a video of themselves and be shocked by the visual evidence. It’s the reason why even the slightest swing adjustment can feel like a dramatic change. A golfer cannot see themselves during the golf swing. They must rely on what they feel, while focused on striking a ball that sits on the ground. The challenge of course, is to convert these “feelings” into a correct swing sequence that consistently produces a well struck golf shot.
Even with the advances in modern instruction, the majority of golfers float from swing tip to swing tip forever searching for a magic move that will allow them to play better golf. The problem is that golf is a game of opposites. Swinging the club in one direction can make the ball fly in the other. You hit down toward the ground, to make the ball go up in the air. A hard swing can result in a weak shot, followed by a smooth swing that produces effortless power. The physics of ball flight can be very confusing. In trying to improve their golf game, players usually find the most difficulty in the process of feeling their golf swing and connecting those feelings with how the ball flies.
At Launch Golf, our focus is to make the golf swing as simple and athletic as possible. Anyone that has played a sport like baseball, softball, or tennis already possesses a basic understanding of how to strike a ball with club. Anyone that has shot a basketball into a hoop, or tossed a wadded up piece of paper into a trash can, already possesses the requisite hand eye coordination to be a good putter. It can really be this simple. By utilizing TrackMan® technology, our instructors can provide instant analysis of your ball flight, without any guesswork. By helping you understand how your swing produces a certain flight pattern, they can help you make athletic swing changes. Most importantly, you will begin to “feel” how these changes produce a shot that flies to your target. Our TrackMan® powered lessons provide an immediate biofeedback on each and every shot the student hits. The instant feedback you will receive will in essence, make Feel…Real!
